Bio:
Ap. Prof. Bianca Gerendas is the Managing Director of the Vienna Reading Center (VRC) since 2017 and a member of the OPTIMA research group in clinical research (former Associate Director 2013-2019). The Vienna Reading Center has been the digital center for standardized and independent image analysis in over 40 multicenter clinical trials, where it has collected and evaluated images from over 800 study sites worldwide of many thousand patients. As a clinician Bianca Gerendas is a consultant retina specialist at the Department of Ophthalmology, Medical University of Vienna. She finished her Medical School in 2009 at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, where she in parallel to her MD obtained her Master of Science degree in Healthcare Management in 2010. At the Medical University of Vienna she completed her habilitation and a PhD in Medical Physics (“From Qualitative to Quantitative Retinal Image Analysis – How eye doctors will be supported by artificial intelligence in the future”) and is now a PhD senior supervisor in the Medical Imaging and Clinical Neurosciences PhD programs. She authored more than 50 scientific publications (Link) and received numerous awards for her research. Besides her academic career Bianca is married and mother of two daughters (2014, 2016).
