Bio:

Hrvoje Bogunovic is a Director of Christian Doppler Lab for Artificial Intelligence in Retina (CD-AIR) and an Associate Director of the Lab for Ophthalmic Image Analysis (OPTIMA) at the Medical University of Vienna. His research group combines the breakthroughs in Artificial Intelligence (AI) with cutting edge retinal imaging in order to advance the state of the art in automated retinal image analysis and personalized medicine in ophthalmology. He obtained his BSc and MSc in Computer Science from the University of Zagreb, Croatia. He obtained his PhD with honors in 2012 from the University Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain. He then did a postdoc at the University of Iowa, US, where he specialized in medical image analysis for ophthalmology. He moved to Medical University of Vienna, Austria in 2015 to join OPTIMA as a lead of computational imaging methods and machine learning. As of 2021 he is a Faculty at the Medical University of Vienna.

His general research interests are in medical image analysis, computer vision and machine learning with applications in healthcare. He is particularly interested in machine learning for predicting disease progression and in knowledge discovery from large clinical longitudinal imaging datasets.

Research Interests:
– Medical Image Computing
– Computational Image Analysis
– Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence for Healthcare
– Retinal Imaging
